Steak Seasoning Mix is a easy homemade seasoning made from pantry staple ingredients like garlic and onion powder, paprika, black and white pepper, coriander, curry powder and red pepper flakes. A must-have seasoning to transform your steaks to the next level!

This steak seasoning mix is a dry rub mainly used to add flavor to the meat. The salt added in this seasoning helps melt the  meat fat as the meat cooks resulting to mouth-watering juicy meat. You can just apply directly the rub on your steak just before you cook them.

How to Season Steak

Steak Seasoning Mix

The best way to season a steak depends a little bit on the type of steak you are grilling as well as the level of flavor you like on your meat. With a thicker cut of steak (1.5-2 inches), you can be pretty liberal with this seasoning. Thoroughly cover the surface of the meat. That way, the seasoning really carries through each bite.

Remember, you can always add seasoning easier than you can remove it. Start with a light hand and don’t sprinkle too heavily at the beginning. I also recommend pressing the seasoning into the meat with the palm of your hand. This helps the seasoning adhere and you don’t lose as much when you’re moving it around on the grill. Avoid rubbing the seasoning in. It tends to clump up and you’ll have strong bites of pepper or herbs instead of it being evenly distributed.

Who invented steak seasoning mix?

Morris “The Shadow” Sherman

The Montreal deli Schwartz’s  is credited with the creation of Montreal steak seasoning. It is rumoured that during the 1940s and 1950s, a Schwartz’s broilerman by the name of Morris “The Shadow” Sherman began adding the deli’s smoked meat pickling spices to his own rib and liver steaks.
